Mature Males vs Immature Females

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it depends. I've kept a group of 2.3 Tigers together. I strongly believe that only one of the females is mature, but both males are mature. There is the ocassional small bite on the immature females, but for the most part they focus their attention on the big girl. That said they have a lot of space to get away from each other. I think that males are able to tell if a female is receptive or not. I might worry more about a male that is just becoming mature and not quite sure what he is doing yet :)

Thanks all, gr8 info and very interesting, so it really just depends on the male and amount of space then I take it.

I observed that the males start biting before the females are complete mature. In this case the females are not ready and very stressed even some worse injuries are possible. I separated the female if this happened and put them together 2-3 months later. Then they mate without a problem.
Here is a pic of a scobina female. All the injuries happened in one night. Before this night they were together for a long time and the male showed no interest in the female.
