Ok I picked up this crazy, sump pump, water circulation, power head combo thing. It is a Maxi Jet 900. All I wanted is the fan version, it was VERY easy to assemble and switch around and change between the diffrent settings. I ended up using the fan version of the model. As soon as I get it put together i notice that the impeller is very loose, it is designed to have space. I think this cant be right ! BUT IT WAS ! So it created THE WORST NOISE ! It is SUPER LOUD !!!!!! Not only it was loud but did I notice something else ! WOW it was doing a GREAT JOB ! Too good of a job for my 180 gallon ! Had some crazy current going on !

SO after looking for some solutions online and realising that there isnt one for the noise. I was GOING to take it back and get my money back. As I was contemplating that I was looking at the GPH for the diffrent setting or options you can have and noticed that the gph is GREATLY diffrent I MEAN like a 700 GPH diffrence from one to the other. So I took ti apart and re set it up in maybe two minutes. It was absolutly silent in the power head mod. Not only that but I have the perfect current !

Here is a pic of what it looks like running silently and to the gph I wanted Aquarium-System-Maxi-Jet-1200-Powerhead-Pump.jpg

SO AS FOR THE WARNING ! DO NOT GET THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT THE FAN! IT IS SUPER LOUD ! I MEAN CRAZY LOUD!!! If you do wish to get this product TAKE THE GPH ON THE BOX INTO CONISDERATION ! THERE IS HIGHER AND LOWER MODELS AND I KNOW WE ALL HAVE DIFFRENT SIZE TANKS IN THIS FORUM ! SO READ THE BOX AND DONT USE THE FAN MODE! I WOULD SAY IF YOU WANT A FAN BUY A DIFFRENT BRAND! IF YOU DONT CARE THEN THIS POWER HEAD WORKS GREAT !

Did you miss any part/bushing to hold/secure the impeller? The noise could be from the rattling of the loose impeller

The only way I got mine quiet was to pull the housing/cage out a tiny bit rather than seat it all the way against the motor.
But the thing put so much stray voltage(about 38vac) that I threw it in the spare aquarium junk drawer in the garage. I had one of each size and they all did it.

This is the truth, maybe the motor isn't properly sealed, who knows. It made my fish very agro, after I unplugged it they went back to normal, put a new brand of circulator in and still normal.

Pretty bad when your finger touches the water and you feel a small shock, like static...
