If I remember correctly, he was in a 6x2x2 at the time. Every once in a while he'll become active and will give me some good photo ops. Nothing was done to achieve the background. That is a direct result of using overhead flash to create a downward "spotlight" so to speak. The tank is fully lit but because the flash is so bright, the illusion that the back of the tank is dark is given. It's more the result of the contrast than anything else.
Shutter speed was about 1/160th, aperture was in the range of F16, and ISO was 200.
