I may be getting a new tank FINNALY persuaded my mum and my grandad is dishing out £300! That about $500! so I will be getting a 50-60gal but now I have been offered this I don't know what to stock it with the most I've ever had is a 12gal, mother wants pretty stuff while i want well big stuff, anyone got any ideas?

I strongly suggest looking at your local newspapers and places like Craigslist, you can find a tank much cheaper. There is a 180 gallon tank with wooden stand for $400 in my area.
Yeah just look around and take your time finding a tank as hard as that sounds. New is not always better I have seen some really big tanks in the news paper for cheap.
My friend just recently got a 240gl for $250 dollers. All that he had to do was drain the tank and take it out of the house.

for £300 you could get a second hand decent jewel tank like a rio 400 (5x2x2).
some decent fish would fit in that.

a single oscar will do fine in a 55 as a min like already suggested find a used one and spend your money on some serious filtration if you want to keep bigger fish in a 55 maybe a small wet dry and a good hob filter
