May have to put my acara Jazz down. Opinions.

Thanks. I'm starting to wonder if there is a connection between females who grow large and not bred and tumors/internal issues. It may be anecdotal but I'm seeing a strange pattern. My bp Patch, my chocolate Bobo, and now my acara Jazz. All in a 3 year window. The one exception so far is bp Kong who was male then 'switched.'

I've ordered some fresh all-in one treatment and will dab those spots with peroxide. She will also get pellet mush with metro. Just throwing a hail mary at this point.

To me, looks like a number of different bacterial infections, caused by too few water changes.
But hard to be sure, because you do not post tank water parameter test results.
Testing tank water is one of the best ways to determine if you are providing a healthy environment.
Although many of these man-made species are less than robust, if pristine conditions are provide they can often overcome less than perfect conditions.

She is in an isolation tub and gets clean water every 2 days. She's been in the tub for several weeks due to ongoing issues. Recovers then backslides. I will see if I can find the test strips. Ph here is 7.6-7.8 should be fine for acaras.

To me the most important parameter in judging prevention of bacterial disease is nitrate testing.
I know most aquarists poo poo it, but new research is showing how chronically dangerous it is every day.
Not a direct pathway that kills the fish itself, but in making pathogenic bacteria more virulent in a sometimes generally acceptable nitrate soup, that allows infections to easily take over.
Especially with these man made fish, where color is the main aim, as opposed to what might be lost in robustness.
We have only to look at the way EBJDs seem to drop dead, if looked at sideways

Just the numbers

The setup: 7 gallon tub with 2 air stones, sand, two silk plants, heater
female acara ~3y.o, 6 inches
water change schedule every 2 days 90%
temp 80 degrees

base water fresh
GH 120
KH 80
PH ~6.8
NO2 0
NO3 0

Will take a test tomorrow to see if the needle moves much. Right now Jazz is at the bottom at a normal position. She headstands when clean water is added. Water had a strong odor this morning even though she had a full change yesterday. Will post numbers tomorrow. The only encouraging thing is that her fins are open and normal, no clamping. Gave her another clean this morning. Added some salt.

Uneaten food is not a factor as she hasn't eaten in some time. I still scrub the plants. Sand is all fresh not reused from other tanks.

Have you checked your ammonia levels?Hopefully that’s not what’s causing the smell. It may also be from the bacterial infection.

Its a bit surprising that you have no nitrates as even tap water has a bit…is your test kit old or expired?

Would be good to add some Kanaplex to help resolve some of the bacterial issues

All the best

That's the fresh water baseline I'm going to compare with today's sample. I started her on all in one treatment yesterday with salt. She seems more comfortable. Will post test tonight. Her other meds arrive tomorrow. No odor to the water today. She'll get fresh daily during treatment.

Comparison water test day one: (includes medication, prime and salt)

fresh water
GH 120
KH 80
PH ~6.8
NO2 0
NO3 0

24 hours (1 day)
GH 180
KH 0
PH 6
NO2 0
NO3 ~.5
fresh water today, 90%

Thia all in one med calls for 5 days of treatment.
