Mayaheros Uropthalmus and brackish conditions

As far as predators to go with the cichlids, take a look at belonesox belizanus. They are pike-like livebearers from central America that go great with cichlids. I have a pair in my ca community and they are ignored, they swim around happily. Females get up to 8", I have seen one at this size it was really impressive.

It will be interesting to see what happens w/ the subspecies.

But that aside, Mayans can be pretty aggressive cichlids. Not sure how they’ll be w/ brackish species though.
 
I have personally seen them in the intercostal water way here in Florida (Tampa Bay Area), in the same waters where Snook, Redfish and Trout are found. They can certainly tolerate brackish and even oceanic water. Just take care to acclimate them slowly, just as you would a Molly.
