Hi,

I recently picked up a Mayan Cichlid. Very cool looking fish and was told that it had a mild temperment, however, I'm finding him to be very aggressive. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with them and may be able to give me some insight into what I should expect. I understand tey get quite large but other than that I really don't know.

Thanks.

Mild? You were lied to :P They are aggressive fish and males will top out @ 11-12" or so.

my mayan/uro cichlids started off pretty timmed but turned aggressive so i had to part with him makes me sad great fish grew pretty fast and ate a TON

It is freshwater....

They are found in brackish water in their natural habitat

i have had several over the years and none were mild. they were all pretty rough buy still one of my all time fav's.

I have a 10 inch male and is extremely aggressive. He is hyperdominant in my tank which contains dovii, buttikoferi, red devil, striped midas, nile tilapia, pike cichlid, etc. I was actually surprised by how aggressive they are.
