i never notice that...it is "sharp" but it is so fine i didn't think is would be that bad...
 
Yup silica is like micro razors to a ray. Definitely not good. Imagine crawling around on YOUR belly all day long on 120 grit sandpaper, mucho owee :(

Use swimming pool filter sand (only color is white though...but it makes the poop real easy to see). Estes is probably the best stuff (since you're rich :ROFL:) out there, or you can get 3M color quartz for $24 for 50#.

maybe i can use the 3m for the 6' tank and save the estes for the 50' lake:naughty:....
 
Just a few ideas to toss at this one (being that I'm from MN).

Paddlefish - as said - need much more space.
Tropicals in a pond set up in MN (even in a barn) will be a MAJOR undertaking to heat for most of the year. I've run large scale bodies of water in MN, and even in an enclosed area, it's still hard to keep them warm enough from tropical animals. You're best bet would be an above ground set up with a MAJOR heat changer set up.

actually estes marine sand is fairly cheap were I live,I dont know if u have a pet supplies plus were u live but that is were I bought mine from,5lb bags are $3.49 and 10lb bags are $8.00 pretty good deal and wonderful colors.:D
 
i might just do a coldwater set up here in mn...but i definately want a large tropic pond at some point...

lol his price is cheaper, $24 for 50lb, compared to $40. It is just expensove in quantity.
