MBU and black aro???

not sure what dimentions you are thinking for a 300-400 tank but IMO its still not big enough for a mbu

my fahaka is topping 14" now and my old mbu was 22" (and 15+ years old) when it died

for a 2 foot fish to turn and swim realistically i dont think a 1000 is that far off the mark esp with tank mates

that beak can do a lot of damage, albeit with mbus mostly accidentaly, at feeding time mine once bit a 12" tinfoil barb clean in half in a feeding frenzy!!!
 
It's not just the swimming room that is a concern with these large-massed fish. It's all about diluting the huge amounts of waste they produce. Even with several large veggie filters on a 300-400g tank, you're still going to have to do massive, weekly WC.
