Mbu Puffer advice needed...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the replies. Alright, so two days now with salt treatment and spots are still very present. How long usually before the sport wear off? A week? I read somewhere about the life cycle of that parasite but can't remember...

I'm so stressed out to see this fish sick...sorry for all the posts LOL

The best way to get rid of ich is just bump the temp up to 85+ ( the higher the temp the less oxygen so add a air stone) add 1 table spoon of salt for every 10 u.s gallon ( i think thats the amount added) The first few days it will look like its getting worse than it will clear up. Do lots of water changes 1 every outher day. thats the best way imho to get rid of ich. Hope everything goes ok. goodluck mate

The high temp will just speed up the life cycle of the ich. That is why it looks like there are more of them or they are not decreasing. Once these drop off they should not be replaced on the fish by others. Also remember that ich spores are present in almost every aquarium system. They wait for weakness, such as an injured or stressed fish. Another good reason not to use meds is that they will kill your bio filter and hurt you water parameters. With a fish prone to ick, this is all is takes for another outbreak. Don't fret too much though. With a larger fish that is eating well and is taken care of, ich is usually not fatal.

hey cy. i just got two mbu's about two months ago that were about three inches also. i placed one in a 180 and the other in a 100 gallon. the puffer in the hundred burried himself in the sand, while the one in the 180 got ich. i just treated him with quickcure for about six days (one drop per gallon) and he is doing good to this very day. you are getting great advice from odd and chum. The big thing to remember is to take out your CARBON. i don't think anybody mentioned that yet, but if you guys did- sorry.

Cool thanks. I took out the carbon when I started treating with quick cure a couple weeks ago...now i stopped the meds and I'm doing Oddball's salt treatment advice. I prefer this approach since it doesn't involve meds. We'll see how it turns out. Right now he's still bothered by the ich, as he is still not as active as when I got him, but at least he doesn't bury in the sand anymore, and moves around a bit. Also eats well. So I guess now I just need to give him time...

Thanks for all the good advice.

Was your puffer cured from this ? Please help I noticed my puffer 3 days ago with 2-3 spot on his dorsal fin started using the treatment. The treatment is esha exit which is for white spot and another which goes with esha treatment for fungal diseases in case he contracts another illness why he is ill. On the first day I added 1G per Litre of aquarium salt to my 350 Litre tank only once and then added treatment, raised the temp from 25.5C to 28C This is the third day of just continuing the esha exit treatment and he now has loads over him small little white dots on his body and fins. He is around 5.5" and is still eating well, the same as usual and is acting the same although sometimes itching. I have also raised the oxygen up I have 2 air stones and have increased the amount. What shall I do ? Water changes ? Stop treatment and use salt ? I love with fish ❤
