Only Freshwater? What about heater and feeding? Food with shells everyday okay?

Going to need a heater yes. and while he's young, I do muscles on the half shell. When young there teeth aren't that bad but when he's older he will switch to little neck clams

How old and how young? It never eats the shells on half shell. My MBu was like 5". What about digestion? Will it flip upside down or die?
