Would like to get a few different people to chime in on how these guys cohab with rays. I am mainly interested if anyone has had any issues with MBU puffers biting rays but would also love to hear some success stories.

There is a nice sized mbu at the lfs I work part time at and I am very tempted to take him home

Only way I was comfy trying it was getting the puffers really small and rasing them with rays. Did the same thing with the wolf.

The vid of mine are in the MM MBU thread over in the media lounge. I had them together for over a year with no issues. I recently parted with 2 which are now in the classifieds, but kept one to grow out, it's still in with rays and the plan will be to keep with rays unless it decides otherwise.

The one at the store ignores the large golds someone put in with him thinking he would eat them and only eats snails and crayfish. Would you think after several weeks to a month without a nipped fin it would be a reasonably safe gamble to put a 12" plus mbu in with a 10" leo hen.

It is next to impossible for me to grow one out with him since my 20" peacock bass will make a meal of most things. I am still totally on the fence about it I just like him and also feel a little bad for him since he is in like a 40g at the store. I know my 72/36 is probably not the perfect adult hom for him but it has to be better than 36/18

I wouldnt trust them, just to big of a risk. The mbu may seem fine for 2 years with your rays, or two minutes, the larger they get more damage they can do. My 23"ish mbu liked to nip at their disks, my smaller one didnt seem to mind them. you may get it and not have any issues, just a risk you will have to take so its your call. About beak trimming, your not going to have to worry about that, with a variety of food he will be fine. Mine liked to chew on the rocks, like texas holey rock, rocks that weighed about 20lbs or more, he would actually move the rock when biting it. Was pretty neat watching him.

I parted with mine when I started getting rays. The mbu used to bite armoured cats he was with and I didn't want to risk it with rays. Another potential issue are the sharp shells left behind from the mbu eating.

Not a good combo. A puffer is just about the last thing I'd put with a ray.

Rays have barbs that could kill fish..... But yet we all keep fish with our rays.

Rays eat the fish we keep with our rays, yet we still keep fish with rays.

It's not just puffers that could damage rays, or eat thier eyes out, all fish can, yet we all still keep fish with them.

I bet there's been more cases of Pbass stressing rays to the point they quit eating here then there's been of MBUs even knipping rays.

Just sayin...... ;)
