Mbu puffer with amazon puffers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont think its a good idea. My guess is the Amazon puffers would harass the mbu once the mbu got on the larger size. Or since they eat roughly the same stuff the amazons may try to steal from the mbus mouth and get chomped.

Yes. They're both very tolerant of other fish. SAP's aren't territorial but they are the silver dollars of the puffer world (startle very easy). SAP's teeth grow crazy fast and you will be doing dentistry. Mbu is an excellent puffer if you have the room SAP's are just a total PIA imo and I think you'd be happier with regular schooling fish.

The reason is I would love mbu but i dont think a 125 is big enough but ive heard different opinions ehat do you thinl

I’ve heard of people doing it many years ago although not sure if it ever really worked out long term...

Possible compatibility problems aside, one must also consider the fact South American Puffers can require teeth trimming even on high shelled diets...

So trying to catch multiple puffers (as they prefer being in groups) out of a large, decorated system wont be the easiest of tasks...

If you only have a 125G please forget about keeping any of the larger freshwater puffer such as a Fahaka or MBU for the moment, as they really should be kept in much larger systems...

I thought fahaka usually max out at about 14 inches

Not at all, max is around 16-17” although there have been rare cases where they reach up to 18”

Cross river is said to max at 14”, although being so rare, hard to confirm with first hand info...

You'll have a full grown puffer at 26-30" in 3 yrs. 125 would be a bad decision for you and the mbu.
