Mbuna Cannibals?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I poked around again but still couldn't find anything. I have eggcrate underneath my sand and the sandbed is fairly thin over the crate, to the point where it's very easy to uncover the eggcrate. I don't see any signs of the body in the sand at all. I checked beneath the crevices and found nothing either.

Will a corpse eventually float to the surface? Should I just keep monitoring the AM level to make sure it doesn't spike if the corpse is indeed hidden somewhere?

Thanks,

Most likely if it died your fish will eat the deceased body and leave the bones so i wouldnt think a set of small bones would cause a big issue.. If the body is left alone (not eaten) yes it will eventually float and could cause an ammonia spike..

Take care..

Well the Dem that was sick actually appeared this morning in the back of my tank and I netted it out and euthanized it. It showed really faint traces of life, swimming sideways & upside down. I'm glad it didn't end up eaten or stuck somewhere, prob solved. I still wonder what happened to it, my other fish are fine & water params are too.
