Mbuna for 40G?

you could do a dwarf species colony in the 40 breeder, just avoid the really aggressive ones like P. Demasoni. some options for the 40 that would be good for life are P. salousi, P. Acei, Yellow labs, Cynos, etc... alternatively it would make a nice male tank or breeding colony of aulonocara species

I wish african cichlids are very limited in supply here. Mostly we get some mbunas like estherae, yellow labs or demasoni, julies, nimbichromis and jewel cichlid just to name some of the species that are sometimes available. I've never seen any Auloncara species here ever.
ok so if you guys say estherae would be a bad choice then I guess I'll have to wait till they get yellow labs and try that.

BTW how would jewels get along with labs?

Jewels would do fine until they spawn and then they would try to kill anything that got near the eggs
