attention mfk never shop at riverdale tropical fish in mount rainier / hyatsville!

They do not quarintine ANY fish they recieve from wholesale or individuals.

They have improper names when they label their fish inorder to charge far more than the actual value

I recently bought a "killin" fish from them and I made the mistake of not having a quarintine tank at the time.... The fish had a disease and whipped out my tank of more than $500 worth of fish.

Their customer service is absent and that is putting it nicely.

Let everyone you know in the area that they will regret ever walking in the door of riverdale tropical fish, once they see the conditions of the tanks and fish!!!

btw, mods if this is in the wrong section please move

thanks,
alex

umm 90% of lfs dont Q new fish... if there is nothing wrong that can be seen it goes out the door... and you should always Q new fish....

you just baically described most of the LFS. and as much as it sucks for us, you cant honestly blame them for the most part.

some shops get 100's of fish a week. they would need an insane ammount of tanks to keep up with proper Q, and still have a constant stock of fish out of Q and ready to sell. that means several sets of tanks. new arrival Q, sick/treatment tanks, ready to sell healthy holding tanks, then finally Sales tanks on the floor. a seemingly impossible task for all but the most dedicated shops/breeders

as far as mislabeling fish, its shady, but switch type deals like that are ever present in almost any business you look at. especially in the fish hobby, where im sure a good portion of stock sales comes from new keepers who may not know the difference between many fish, nor there true value.

if your in the DC/MD area, go to Ricks on the Golden Mile in Hagerstown. they Q fish and i've never had a bad experience there. some of the staff cant spell fish, put the selection is great and so are most of the staff.

Actually I think Scales quarenteens some of their fish..

I never q any fish I buy.. but I only buy from those I trust.. As far as Riverdale I've never been but I've heard about it many times and know it's not my kind of place.. Hit up Scales/Exotic Aquatics.. both great upscale stores with proper ID's, good fish.

I understand not being able to quarintine all fish but I do feel like customer trade
Ins should be Q at least.

And scales is my current favorite LFS although I still need to visit the one in hagerstown.
scales is very clean and they also have the widest range of supplies such as food, medication etc.

I am fairly new into the hobby so I learn new lessons everyday, I guess this was just one I had to learn the hard way.

sorry man..

Is that avatar what I think it is? lol
