I think ill try it as building material and see. Unless someone has a past experience building a tank with it?

You may want to test waterproofing it first. I would be concerned about that part, maybe test a small piece.

if the mdf got wet even once, it would swell and fall apart completely ruining the tank and possibly causing the whole tank to drain. mdf has its uses but building a box that holds water out of it would be the absolute worst use for it ever.

take a chunk of it and and put it in a bucket of water, it will soon just be a pile of wet sawdust(hours-days). do the same with plywood, and although it will get wet, it will atleast hold its shape for a very long time(months-years).

With just the wood or treated?

Not sure what you are asking.

I was saying you could try treating a small piece of mdf with something to see if its even possible to waterproof it.

If you get just mdf wet it will swell and it becomes very brittle once it dries.

I understand that but the wood shouldn't come into contact with the water if its treated on all sides. Both materials when they come into contact with water fail. Untreated plywood warps and leaks. I guess the upside is there wont be catastrophic failure with ply.

Oh, lol. Now I get it. Sorry, been a long week.

Place some mdf and some plywood in a bucket of water, leave it there for a while and see what happens, that alone might change your mind.
