How is it done? Do you actually remove the fish? I've always measured in ratio to a picture. For instance: 6ft aquarium = 72", take a photo of the aquarium on iPhone, so the tank stretches across my 3" screen, then measure fish in photo and make it a ratio.. Just wanted to know if there Was a better/ more accurate way

Some people take the fish out put it onto a 3 inch tray that holds water and then they put some medicine in there. It will calm the fish and u can get exact measurments.

I see how that would be nice.. Would be difficult to wait on the fish to swim right up on the rule though.. My jag usually sits in a spot diagonally or swims in the middle region of the tank.

Medicine like clove oil? I heard that's what is used for fish surgeries. As long as my jag wouldn't freak out and cut himself.. It would be so hard to get him out. Even sectioning him off he'll attack anything I stick in the water.

My midevil is super aggressive also. I don't have a net big enough for her so I just taped a ruler to the top of the glass. Once I got her attention bring her to the ruler and eye ball it.

Approximate the length of the fish. Cut a dowel/stick to the approximated length. Wrap a coat hanger like wire around the stick as a handle and lower it into the water next to the fish. Approximate how much longer/shorter the fish is than the object.

Just guess it you dont have to be dead accurate.
I hold a rule up to the glass, to me taking a fish out is just a pain.
