Measuring Dissolved O2 In The Water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm happy to talk about all this, if you're willing to explain it all and answer all my questions. :)

I'm just curious as to what's out there in the hobby, the more I can learn the better imo. :D
From what I have seen, there isn't much in 'the hobby', because of the cost... Give the Vernier website a gander, starting with their pH, conductivity, and ISE probes. They are not cheap, but they are about the least expensive platform I have seen. You could probably outfit yourself with everything you would need for an aquarium for around $1k.

That's all??? Wow, I was expecting at least tripple that. If that's the case I may go something mid range, I'd rather save for twelve months and get something semi-decent than save for six months and get a "cheaper option". All up it would take roughly twelve months to save $2500, and I'm more than happy to save for a few years if needed. :D

Also, what's an ISE probe? :)

Ion Selective Electrode

I don't think you would get any higher accuracy or precision by spending more. I have been rather pleased with the Vernier unit, in terms of aquarium applications. I may be slightly low in my estimation of cost, but please do investigate them on your own. They have loads of instructional videos on their website.

I plan to do a lot more research once I know what I'm looking at. But honestly, outside of liquid kits I don't know what I'm looking at. I don't want to blow a four diget figure on something that I don't know anything about. Hence why I don't have a car :D

The base unit (meter) is $329, the probes are priced individually. Some require calibration solutions, all of which are includes with the initial purchase, and additional calibration solutions are priced on the information pages for the corresponding probes. For the most part, you dip the probe in the water and the meter reads a value. It is that simple, plug and play. They also sell colorimeters that can be connected to the meter, and it will read the color of a sample, as you normally compare the API kit to your color chart, only with much higher precision.
