How do the micron ratings work? Which has smaller holes, 250 or 800?

The bags are rated in hole size by micron so the smaller the number...the smaller the holes....

I don't personally use anything larger than 100....most of mine are 50,25,10

Foster and Smith only have 250 or 800

I use nylon stockings. Fishnets for larger holes.

10 micron?! Wow, thats almost a diatom filter. You could put fine dust in that bag. I gotta admit, I've never seen anything below 100.

1 micron?! No way! That is a diatom filter! My diatom is only rated to .8 microns. What would you use these for? Wouldn't they clog instantly? What kind of flow rate can you get out of this bag?

If used in series...from larger to smaller...then no they don't clog as quickly as you might think...

That said...the 10...5...and 1 mic bags are usually used only occasionally for water polishing. The 1 mic bag is also VERY good at removing free algee from the tank water.

Yeah, no crap! In fact bacteria can't even get through that. I was under the impression you were using it as a media bag. You use the 10 & 25 for media?

As far as the free floating algae, IMO UV is much better. Nothing to buy, change, rinse, or clog
