media bags?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nothing to buy except VERY expencive replacement bulbs every 4 to 6 months and of course electricity...

I'll stick to rinsing out bags twice a month or so...

lol, except the key is to only turn it on when needed. I try to keep my levels as perfect as possible to avoid outbreaks in the first place. I figured it would also come in handy if ever I had a virus (god forbid). Besides my "new tank syndrome" when switching tanks, I haven't had any free algae or reason to turn it on at all.

Anyway, back to the original post, do we agree that this person probably wouldn't need anything smaller then a 250?

No they shouldn't need anything smaller than 250 for normal use and especially not for use as a media bag...

The same vendor I posted the link to have 200 mic bags that work great as media bags for a good price.

Need media bags with really small holes for Purigen. Using pantyhose right now but that would be a big pain when it comes time to regenerate the Purigen.

Ahh, yes, I too use Purigen and have found that the supplied bags don't even seem to be fine enough. While rinsing, I have noticed that some was escaping the bag through the holes. According to Seachem, it is a 180 micron. So, I guess 100 would be the best bet for that purpose.

Yeah, no crap! In fact bacteria can't even get through that. I was under the impression you were using it as a media bag. You use the 10 & 25 for media?

As far as the free floating algae, IMO UV is much better. Nothing to buy, change, rinse, or clog :)

But your UV doesn't filter out the dead algae carcasses :D.

Thanks for the answer to my question. Thanks for the link too. I'll go with the 250 and see how they work for me.
