Eheim say 6 months to a year, however I have absolutely no problems with mine 8 months down the track and I haven't even cleaned the filter yet :p
If you want to throw it away and buy new be my guest, but you will just be throwing away your money, and your beneficial bacteria. Have fun when your tank has to cycle again.

As my previous post says, which you blatantly misinterpreted, Eheim state the media lasts between 6-12 months. I'm sure after 6-12 months it has considerably less available surface area due to slight erosion blocking from small particles, but it still operates perfectly well. With brand new media having a higher surface area than worn older media, and given the price of EHFI media, it's not exactly a sound investment but you wouldn't be "throwing away money". Thanks for the heads up but I do realise that is a marketing ploy.

As I also stated in my previous post, my Eheim Canisters have been running for over 8 months and haven't had any cleaning other than a simple backwash and still have full flow.

Insinuating that someone would replace 100% of the biological media at once is also ridiculous.

i think the points that WyldFya and Japes are putting across need to be emphasised.
regardless of what any manufacturer says DO NOT throw away all your media and replace at one sitting. your tank will cycle again and probably kill most if not all your fish.
replace half at most if it needs doing but bio media (ceramic noodles/lava rock etc) shouldnt need replaced for a couple of years at least, rinsed every now (i do mine every 3months) and then in tank water only, dont use tap water or it will act like you have replaced all the media.

they say that to make money, there are people on this site that have been using the same bio media for over 20 years...

I've got 15+ year old media in one of my Eheims. It's a very heavily stocked 90...no water quality problems.

My eheim is setup with ceramic prefilter - sponge - biomax (same function as substrat pro) - white pad. I do the following maintenance on it every 2-3 months: Rinse the ceramic prefilter thoroughly, gently rinse the large debris off the sponge and replace or rinse the white pad (depending on how old and clogged it is). I only use tank water during these steps. I haven't had any water quality or flow problems since I set it up about a year ago.

I insinuated nothing, your statement was very close ended. Being that you've had yours 8 months, which does fall into the 6-12 month area.

I have Ehfisbustrat that is going on 14 years, it has neither needed additions, or replacement. The fish in there have been roughly the same set, with of course growing bio-loads. Ehfisubstrat has never had a less effective filtration for me. The biocapacity of the media has never been dropped dramatically for me.

Yes, except for the white polishing pad (if you use it) might need to be replaced every now and then.
