Media for FX5

Ok, I decided to get an FX5 for my 90Gal (Will be upgrading tank) and want to know about media......

I ordered my FX5 and also ordered some Eheim EHFI substrate - 5L

I have not got the filter yet but reading the online manual it mentions things about using different types of media?!?!?

Have I done the wrong thing ordering just the one type??

i personally bought 4 types of media for mine, you get much better filtration, if i was you i'd probably go and buy more new media. but you could probalby get away with what you have.

in mine i use-
ceramic rings
carbon
and 2 different kinds of ammonia removing media.

did you buy filter bags aswell?, there a must need when dealing with any small media in fx-5's, or any canister really.

the ammonia removing media is a waste of money that is what you bio media will do either bio max or in your case the EHFI substrate, in my FX5 I run pre-filter in the top tray and biomax in the bottom 2 trays...

i'd also recomend the ceramic rings, benificial bacteria grows on them over time, which help the overall health of your aquarium.

Are you talking for foam filter?

Eheim media is A class, very good. But add ceramic rings and or bio balls.

When cleaning the filter should i clean out the media also?
