Ok i have a Penn Plax Cascade 1000 Canister Filter on a 55 gal, I want to know what can i use as media besides the pads , sponges and carbon that comes with the filter, the filter has three or four rows of basket and i wondering what could i put in each basket

Het Cornbread I suggest you try biomax in the lowest tray you can use a pad on the bottom of the trays before adding carbon or other media. How is the grammode doing? I ordered extra media for the FX5 including bio max and a 20 oz cotainer of Chemi Pure it should arrive today or tomorrow I'll set it up when the media arrives.
Good luck.

Chemi pure is a pain to get over here, with a tray system you options are endless. Ask yourself the question, is there a problem that needs to be solved?

he hides alot since he killed my nic but other then that he is doing good

Get some quality bio media such as Hagen's Biomax, Eheim's ehfisubstrat, Seachem's Matrix or Azoo's Bioglass.

The cascades flow from the bottom up. So your filter pads should be in the bottom tray. In mine I have 1 black sponge and then 2 white filter pads in the bottom tray. In the next tray i have 3 boxes of cascade bio rings poured in there. I take them out of the net bag they come in. I have a 700 so I only have 2 trays. If I had more trays I would add more bio rings. The cascade bio rings work great and are alot cheaper than bio max.
