Hey all. I just picked up this today and am wondering what I need to buy as far as media goes. It says it uses the Eheim 2028 filter pad, is there anything else that I need to buy to put in here?

Decent filters, basically a pro 2 filter, which is why they are in so much trouble. Don't go looking for replacement parts... :D I would fill it with eheim ehfimech for the first basket, and ehfisubstrat pro for the second and third baskets.

Okay cool, so fill it with those and I'm pretty much good to go?

Ordered my media today...ran a little higher than I expected, but it said it's reusable? Thanks for your help!!! :D

I'm about to set up a new 55gal planted tank with the EheimProII 2026 - would you suggest the same media for that situation? I'll have an Emp400 on it too.

Side note: if I want to use peat to make my SA community happy, should I put that in the canister, or in the add. media boxes in the Emp?

Welcome to MFK. In the future when you have a question please start your own thread.

Kill the emp 400. It will slow the growth and nutrient uptake of your plants. HOB filters in general are a no no for planted tanks. For media ehfisubstrat pro and ehfimech will be the best.

You know, I thought about that and went with the "don't clog up the board" philosophy. My sincerest apologies.

I was just reading your thoughts on HOBs and planted tanks on your "Filtration review" thread - thanks for the info! On both accounts... :)
