Medicating Rays for Bacterial Infection

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
85-88F and a Furazone treatment will work fine. Upping the O2 is a smart choice. So many meds bond to oxygen and remove it from the water.

I dosed every third day with a water change before new dose @ 85 degrees. It was
for a different illness but it worked for me.

Day 3/Dose 3

The largest of the rays, Ray 1, no longer has redness associated with the tissue at the tips of her "feet" fins.

The MM, Ray 4, is showing signs of healing with the tips of her fins as well, they are no longer white but more grey/brown (back to body color)

All rays are acting normal and ravenous for food, I am feeding as well, as normal. The tigrinus cat is acting normal, no gasping, no spastic movement, etc.

It is not possible to test for ammonia, with the kit I have, because the water is tinted yellow/green from the med. But seeing as there are no signs such as redness of the skin/fins (esp on a tig which is easy to tell) and no gasping for air so I am not concerned.

Would it be possible to see some pics of the symptoms?

I cannot at this time photograph them. I do not have the proper equipment. Synoch's thread "bacteria affecting new rays" has some good shots of what the disk edge looks like, only with mine it is very slight, say 20% of what his exhibited. As far as the rawness of the "feet." Picture the fin, it is like a triangle, now on the outside point it is white, exposed, raw, originally with some redness, inflamed. It is very hard to get a glimpse of this normally. If they climb the walls a lot it is easy to see in a glass tank or if bare bottom and you can look up through the bottom.
