Hey guys.
I've been wanting another lizard for quite a while now.
I'd really love to have a Tegu or a nice Savannah monitor but I dont have room for an 8'x4' enclosure at the moment.
I have a 55G tank and a 50G rubbermaid, and I've been trying to find a medium sized lizard that could be house comfortable in an enclosure of that size.
Bearded dragons pop into my head first and they're pretty awesome and I could get one off of craigslist and give it a better life.

Besides beardeds, what are some nice medium sized lizards I could keep in this size of enclosure?
Thanks:D

I have, but neither of these enclosures would work for a cham.

I thought about buying a package from LLL that has the enclosure+lights+baby panther cham for $110 or so.

Also thought about a fire skink, but I heard they dont really tolerate handling.
I should have mentioned in my first post I'd like something that will atleast tolerate handling.

Agreed, you could also try a chinese water dragon

the 55 would work for a while. but eventualy the water dragon would need a bigger enclosure.

you could try some of the smaller uros.
you could try an ameiva, they are in the tegu family but dont get as big. but they dont really like to be handled.
blue tounge skink would be good.
bearded as you mentioned.
leopard geckos.
take a look on kingsnake an see what you like and go from there.

I have a few leopard geckos, and was thinking about setting up the 55 for them.
Big naturalistic type enclosure.

I really like BTS, but I'm having a hard time finding them aside from kingsnake.
If anyone could point me towards a reputable breeder(s) I'd appreciate it!

I also like the look of ameiva, A. linelolata only gets 8''.

I think if you want a handleable lizard, Ameiva is not the best choice. They are fast-moving, nervous lizards, more like small teiids (whiptails, racerunners, etc.) than like tegus, even though they are intermediate in size.

Alright, cool.
They still look pretty awesome though.

What I'd really like is a monitor lizard.
But neither of my enclosures would work for even the smallest monitor, atleast not for life.
I could easily build a 4'x2'x2' which would be fine for a varanus similis, correct?
I would use the 50G rubbermaid tub as a grow out.
