How did you have a breeding pair? I didn't know you could sex these guys. I agree that they are lurkers so they won't move much, but they often like to sit and look at you so he will sit in the front of his tank. Also kept as a singleton they may move more, I just got mine and I caught him swimming around early this morning.

Mine started off as just one male, which never moved even alone... Then later on a friend of mine bought one but decided didnt like such a sedentary fish so gave me his...
Then about a month later they were breeding which is when i knew i had 1m / 1f
But otherwise you're right saying you cant sex them by just looks alone...
