Meds for Cory's and Yoyo Loaches?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I decided to bite the bullet and treat the tank with the ich-out and general cure.I tried emailing "experts" and many hours on different forums without many answers. (not talking about you guys, you guys rock :p;))

After having seen this (https://www.aquariumcoop.com/products/general-cure?variant=20392007620) saying that he has always used general cure and ich-x (100% same as ich-out) with loaches and corys. I trust him so will update on the progress of the little guys.

Please keep your fingers crossed for the little guys and girls (unless doing wc, as this might be difficult lol ;))

I personally would not mix them. Whats the point?

One to treat ich and the other parasites. As far as I'm aware of General cure doesn't treat ich

Use caution using anything containing malachite green on loaches, or any scaleless fish. It can cause death. Try methylene blue in its place if you chose to go that route. You can quarantine and watch for symptoms, or do you want to treat as a preventative regardless of seeing symptoms? General cure contains praziquantel and metronidazole, not bad for a quarantine med if you want to treat the tank without crashing the bio.

I'm keeping a close eye on them. The guy in the video I posted says he treats hundreds with ich-x that contains MG. I'm checking on them like every 10 mins

It looks like the MG is a smaller percentage of the ingredients in the med. That could explain why they tolerate the treatment. I hope it works well for you.

Metronidazole, one of ingredients in General Cure can be effective against ich especially in mild cases. I like to use heat to treat ich and/or General Cure and would be tolerated well by your loaches. MG is one of those meds best avoided with loaches IMO.

So far so good. I'll be keeping a close eye on them.

The reason I decided to it because I had seen 2 of them flashing before the meds

I'm really starting to get sick of how lfs in Australia keep their fish, except Auburn aquarium in Sydney. I have zero to do with them, just a couple of times going they have refused to sell fish to people who have small tanks etc, fish have been very healthy just unfortunate they are a decent drive away and I have a bad knee injury that kills if I drive too far. Another Cory is displaying the same symptoms of the one that passed away yesterday.

Most (not all of course) people in Australia really do think fish are just throw away pets and only nerds would keep them.
