iggy is in a 55g tank
im building a tank for him this summer
i am also picking up one of his brothers or sisters soon
i now have no more monster fish :(
but now i have all herps besides a small nano reef

Well this is not a perminant enclosure. You see iggy was a rescue he was being mistreated at the store. He has skin missing from his mouth due to mouth rub. His brothers and sisters had missing feet and such. My LPS didnt even know that they had them. But i am going to get another from the store. the temps are about 92 on the warm side. and 84 ambient. Its sucha pain in the butt to get those temps up because the tanks so long. This weekend i will be getting some orchid bark to go in the tank. along with some more sticks and branches for the tank. And also something to heal his mouth. Im giving him a warm bath tomorrow because hes still got some of his past sheds stuck to his back and feet. What other types of substrate do you recomend?

I'd recomend crushed walnut shell as a substrate, and by the way is that a chinese water dragon or a swift?

Crushed walnut shell is a terrible substrate. Orchard bark mixed with EcoEarth will work well. Add lots of fake plants at either end of the tank so the dragon can hide in them and not run into the glass as easily.

i would up the temps. go to home depot and get a regular out door flood light bulb. i would go with somehting around 50 watts. and then just play witht he height of the basking area until you get a spot around 100-105. you could even go a bit higher. he will regulate himself within the basking zone to get the right temp;) the bulbs are like 6 bux a pop.

your ambient sounds good. whats the humidity at? you can cover half of the top if you need to hold in some humidity in. i like to use the glass tops for fish tanks:D

as far as substrate i would go with something not easy to ingest. top soil, sand combo works real well. prob a 75% top to 25% soil. it will hold the humidity real good. and it will also be good for digging if he is so inclined to do so.

also be carefull rescuing from pet shops. sometimes it seems the right thing today, but just make sure you can care for them in the long run. you may run into unexpected vet bills. not to mention you will need a large enclosure to house two of them. and even if they get along now it doesnt mean that they will a few months down the road:D

ya i understand
i was planing on getting water dragons for awhile now
it was just i didnt think i would get it so soon
i baisically got him for free
i know how to care for them
and will have the right housing
i have the right housing for a baby as of right now anyways
