thanks guys, i am definitely going to up his feeding schedule. As far as the congo tetras, I was thinking giant danios but it was late when i was responding last night and I'm not sure why I said congos. I've heard the danios are very fast and make for good target fish.

I don't understand why people say Giant Danios are great dithers. IME, My 6" Oscar killed all 5 that I bought in a week. They are fast, but they can't run forever.

cool, thats why I was asking. I will admit I'm fairly new to the whole fish keeping hobby (2-3 years) and still realize there is a ton to be learned. I greatly appreciate the help Water. IYE have you had any success with dithers and larger cichlids like oscars and jags?

Yeh, I kept giant danios in the past as well and i would wake up to see them haning out of the side of my Oscar's mouth. He would corner them and strike. That is why i started going with Silver Dollars. Also, I like the thought of the fish being at least from the same region.

Oscar and Jags don't really need dithers. The point of dithers is to either let shy fish be more bold or help a pair have a stronger bond. Oscars are not shy. Jags aren't shy either, they're known as having a bit of an aggressive nature. Mine was never a brute though.

Thanks for clarifying. My roommates made a classic mistake a couple years back and bought and oscar for a 55. He used to be super aggressive, you would look into the tank and he would ram the glass with his mouth open trying to get at you. Now that he's in the 240 he's turned into a puppy dog compared to his old habits. he will take the occasional nibble at the hand when working in the tank but only if he wasn't fed first.

In the meantime I just really can't wait for little Monty to put on some size. He has gotten noticeably bigger in the 2 weeks I have had him and his colors have gotten much more vibrant. I never realized that jags could get so much blue/purple in their fins until I started raising mine. Really is a beautiful fish and I hope that him and Oscar De La Hoya get along.
