Meet my ocell!

Glad the ich cleared up. Be careful with continously adding new fish from the store. They could carry a wide range of diseases that could hurt your current stock

That's definitely a concern of mine. The minnows I've had for a few weeks now as I was already planning on using them as feeders whenever I got my pbass. What I wasn't expecting was that they would be too big for the fella. I kept seeing pictures of babies sucking on a rosy's head that barely fit in its mouth lol. My guy hasn't even made a pass at them yet :/ not gonna lie though, the neons I did just plunk straight into the tank. I decided my greater concern was to make sure he had an appetite and would even eat. He gobbled down three of them the first night so that confirmed that at least. I am definitely working to get a process in place that will ensure healthy feeders and a healthy tank!

When I woke up this morning there were only two neons left. Now I can't find either of them. Alice has only the slightest bulge, but certainly not what I'd expect to see if he/she legitimately consumed 6 neons in a day. I don't *think* they'd be small (or dumb) enough to swim into my filter intake, but I see no other possible explanations. Oh well. I think he could manage some of my smaller minnows if he really wanted to so I'll give him a few days to think about that. I have some Molly fry I can offer up if not. I'll just wait this one out for a bit. He still goes into hiding any time I feed the others some flake or blood worms. Such a picky eater!

I did get some pics of him yesterday all colored up though!

Those are stressed colors

Oh nooo!! At the time I took those he was following the school of neons around and ducking into the hideouts to spy on them, I just assumed it was his being sneaky colors :(

So I guess it's a good thing then, that he's been much less colored up today. He's still chasing the glass a lot though. Is there anything I can do for him? Maybe leave the lights off for a couple days?

Maybe I am overstocked? There is certainly a lot of hustle and bustle going on in that tank right now.

I can grab another tank today and throw the minnows and flagfish back in that. I'm running dual HOBs on my current 20gal but I'm sure it'll hold up just fine if I part with one.

Aw man, I'm worried now.

No just let everything settle down, don't add or take anything out, and don't make any changes to the aquarium just give him time to settle in. He's not used to you yet, but once he get's settled and recognizes you as a source of food you'll get his full attention lol

This indeed. Ive seen bass start to frenzy when my buddy walks in the door with feeders. When he goes into the bathroom to dump them in a net they sit on that side of the tank watching. They definitely know their keeper!

Thanks guys, I'll keep everything as is and either he'll adjust or he won't I reckon. Gets me paranoid though, the only other time I've had fish not settle in were both times I tried getting pictus cats. They just went fully neurotic and both times were dead within a week or so. Would hate to see that happen to little Alice :(

He seems to be doing alright today. It also appears as though I'm missing two minnows. There must be some portal to another dimension in one of the lace rock crevices, or else Alice has an enviable metabolism.

So yesterday when I was watching him he got those really bright colors again while he was chasing down and making several attempts to get one of the minnows. He finally caught one and settled back down. So it seems like he only really gets that coloration when he's on the hunt, is that normal or should I still be concerned? Seriously loving this fish! He's looking closer to 3" now. Can't believe how much he's changed in less than a week!! image.jpg
