He's a nice looking snake with a very interesting looking pattern. Is he that color because he's young? I know that the young black rats I find around me sometimes still have traces of their juvenile patterning.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call him young. He's over 4 ft long, although I know they can sometimes exceed 6 ft.

The female that live around my house is definitely at least 6 feet long!!! She eats a lot of pests.
