Mega clear vinyl prototype tank build (concept building)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is the general frame concept. We are going to put it on a pallet for easy transport. We're going to fill it up outside in case we have a blow-out.

Well that's going to test it for sure! Go big or go home!

What mean as having the liner as a second layer of defense is that I would use it as a way to keep water millage off of the plywood tank by having it between the water and the other water proof layers in the giant wooden tank. Also I would be worried that if I try to build a giant cement tank that it might leak and would use it to stop that from happening if I can't find the leaks in it.

Ok here we go... Just my input,,, Easy up swimming pools are made to push out with the air inflated ring holding it up. But it is reinforced with fiberglass so it doesn't stretch and explode. I have a 900 Gallon pool that hold water with no problem. Just clear vinyl without the fiberglass reinforcement will have a lot of stress on the sides without something holding it back. .. just my 2 cent input.. :) ..very curious how the clear vinyl will hold up... :)

5??? !!! LOL I have 3. I got some 6 foot tanks standing on end in my garage conserving space LOL but you have 5! Good I'm not the weirdest one LOL

My only concern is the longevity of this product in the clarity area. I'm sure it will hold water for years but will it be clear for years? I hope to be one of the first to test this :)

LOL What can I say? Super Duty truck with 8 foot bed + access to Craigslist + Monster Fish addiction = lot's of projects. I should probably try to find some kind of support group.

I've been working with suppliers, over the past few weeks, to make sure we are using the right material. Also, I'm going to try really hard to develop the product to be used without side supports (acrylic, plywood) and only be held together with a frame. I'm going to try 4' deep with a 6' span, but I think 4' may be too deep. I don't think may people would even want a 4' deep tank anyway--maintenance would require a bathing suit. Hopefully we'll be able to start building next week after we figure out what kind of material we are using.

PS. the gold fish are still doing fine and the tank looks mint. I took the plexiglass off the front and it looks very clear... I should take a picture. hang on....

I kind of like the 4ft test build, mostly because if it works for 4ft then it will work for almost alll applications home users choose to throw it it

For the issue with the clarity against the acrylic, would one of the background adhesives maybe make a difference? Either way I hope this works out for when I build my next tank.
