For what it's worth I would rather purchase a real medication than rely on these products. At my work this is the fish managers medication of choice, yet I've seen this stuff do little to nothing in many cases. As a previous poster has said salt and freshwater is usually far more effective.
Melafix is tea tree oil? no way

A few times when i get a full back of feeder shrimps . I can smell that is melafix with some of those leaves inside the bag but just cannot figur out what type of tree is it. who know what plant or tree it is?
I stand by Melafix, Pimafix not so much but I have only used it once which is not an accurate testing of a product.
Melafix is great for preventing anything from setting in and it is great for speeding up recovery but both seem pretty useless once anything sets into a wound. Everytime something has set in I have had to resort to conventional meds.
As for the euthanisation of fish with Pimafix, you would have had to use tremendous amounts for that. I remember one of the selling points being pushed for these was that it was extremely hard to overdose fish never mind actually kill them.

I think there is a place for real meds from time to time, but for healing torn fins and helping heal abrasions and such, there is no need for super strong meds. I think misuse of meds can do way more harm than good and sometimes targeting the issue and meds to use can be tough. Melafix is not really meant for serious health issues. It's more like Neosporin than Penicillin
But, I agree that freshwater and salt can go along way too. I don't use any meds in any of my displays, but I do use salt from time to time when my fish are rough on each other
lol i never bought melafix and i never realy looked at the bottle so it kinda blew my mind that it was just tea tree oil. i thought i was the only one to know... guess not haha
