I agree with airstones but when i need to use it and any scaleless or otherwise delicate fish are in the tank, especially loaches, I give half the recommended dose. never had any dead fish from half doses

agree with the half dose for scaleless fishes

Sorry for your loss:( I use Melafix from time to time to treat wounds, but I always used half the dosage with scaleless fish.

I was shocked because he was a very tough fish and was full grown.. my reticulated ray is in the same tank and shes doin just fine. And I was tryin to treat my big arowana because he quit eating two weeks ago and is swimming funny for the past week. There also is no visible parasites or marks on him he looks 100% healthy.

They need to emphasize the need for more O2 in the tank on the label for Melafix. This stuff happens too often.

I lost two great fish several years ago when I dosed Melafix (I found it very useful on the distichodus scales after fights, almost like a miracle regenerator). I had plenty of aeration, or so I thought... but the spray bars had slid down the glass and there wasn't any surface distortion.

Oddly, though, my BGK survived that.

Perhaps it had something to do with the time of day. It was late night, so maybe he was awake enough to gasp at the surface or something...

Yeah there r alot of stories like this out there. Some ppl swear by it, others wont touch it
