Table/Iodized salt can be used. It's not ideal, it's the Yellow prussiate of soda that's added to it you really don't want. Epsom salt will have no effect on this at all.

Aquarium salt (sodium cloride) will help with the healing of the fins and ich. This and clean water.

Okay, so if the fins continue to degrade, I will need to treat with fin rot meds.

Any knowledge on if the salt will hurt the babies?

Salt wouln't hurt the babys. Is this fin rot or just some frayed fins? If it's just frayed fins and ich you can just increase the heat and do the water changes. If you suspect actual fin rot I would use the salt. Once the ich is cured if the fins are still not showing any signs of improvement or getting worse you may then need to go to meds. I don't like using meds unless I'm aboslutly shure they are necessary. Can you post a picture? It might be helpful.

I see lots of frayed fins (fin is whole, but with splits in it). The one fin that I am worried about is on one of my acaras and it ragged looking. It's his pectoral fin and I can't get a usable pic. I can't even find a pic online that I can use as an example. About 1/3 of his pectoral fin is gone and the area looks tattered. It could be from aggression (I do have two breeding acaras in the tank of which the patient is not one of), but I don't know.

The little white spots I am seeing haven't moved, but don't see any additional ones either. I feel bad just sitting here doing nothing. I did a water change of about 25% yesterday. The 125 is full of juveniles and young adults and is currently under stocked and over filtered. I do twice a week 25-40% water changes anyways. I broke out the test kit last night about 12 hours after the water change and my ammonia and nitrites are at 0 with nitrates at more than 0, but less than 5ppm. Water quality is not an issue that I can see. Temp in the tank (all of them actually) is kept at 80-81 degrees. My quarantine tank is in use right now, so I don't have the option to remove the acara.

Problem is that I have never dealt with fin rot before. I don't really know what to look for beyond tattered fins and that is aggravating to say the least because I don't know if I have a simple aggression issue or a more serious disease issue. I am currently just taking a step back and monitoring the situation. If I see more spots I will treat for ich. If the fins get worse, I want to be prepared, so I am going to go ahead and buy some aquarium salt.

For ich increase temp to 87^ add salt treat about 10 days even if all signs of ich have disapeared. Change 25% of water with a good substrate vacuming every other day and replace salt removed by water change to keep levels constant.

Agreed. I'm a fan of salt for most things.

It's always a good idea to have some meds on hand just in case. Judging from your above post I would guess this is an agression issue. However I can't garentee that but doesn't sound to me like fin rot from what you discribed you have going on. If you're going to the store get a couple boxes of API Fungas cure to have on hand.

Just realized why you recommended he fungus cure. He white spots I am seeing that aren't increasing in number could be fungus rot. How long should I wait to expect to see more white spots if it is ich at a tank temp of 80?

At 80 the ich will spread/multiply pretty quickly a day or so. API Fungas Cure is Malachite green & Acriflavine and is effective against fungas (Body fungas and Fin Rot) & ich. So in this case I thought would be the best all around one shot med to have available should you need it.
