So Title really says it all. Many believe that Anabantoids are adversly effected by Pimafix and Melafix to their Labyrinth Organs but what about other Obligate Air Breathers such as Polypterus, Channa, Gar and Osteoliggids?

I dont know about the others but i have used pima/mela on my GG for years with no adverse effect at all...He has cut himself and tore off scales, melafix healed him up every time. I have used pimafix as well with no adverse effect..

I've used melafix on a couple baby bichirs when they had fin rot.
they all made it through with no ill effects what so ever.

See, I've used these two products before with no issues, and good results. Why am I all of a sudden seeing that they are bad products to use? I've seen this a few times now in the past few days.

I concur.

I've never had issues with Melafix.. but I did lose my Aba Aba after a dose of pima. delicate as they are as babies I don't know if it was the pima or not. I had been useing the melafix for days prior with no issues. I've used Melafix on my tire track as well as Fire eels, as well as My florida gar, silver arrowana, and my husbands Betta. Never had an issue. It is very potent though and can be easily overdosed imo. I always use 1/2 the rec dose and have rarely needed to go to a full dose.

I've used melafix with multiple gourami species and a group of senegal bichir when they have had ripped fins on more than one occasion. I have never noticed any adverse effects when I have been using it and if fish have died it is always outside treatment after multiple water changes so I have no reason to suspect melafix as the culprit.

I know of shops that use it with their gourami species, bettas, bichirs and snakeheads without a problem.

I have read about melafix and pimafix with people having bad experiences with them but when you consider the amount of those stories and the amount of fishkeepers it is probably about the same complainant rate as adverse effects of other aquarium treatments.
Probably even less because it is a natural product and not regular chemicals such as ich treatments or other fin rot treatments made by the popular manufacturers.
Imo, even if the whole of MFK complained about melafix having adverse effects it would probably still amount to a tiny percentage of complainants compared to the amount of fishkeepers in the world that use it.

The horror stories, some probably started by the competition, will not put me off using it in future.
