Melting Plants?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
try planting it and see what it does.. cuz seriously the stuff can not be killed unless you dry it out.. ive smushed it under rocks/driftwood/gravel, left it in a bucket of tank water for weeks on end, striped it down to a nub... and every time its come back and grown into a full plant..

about a month ago i took down a 60gallon and its been sitting in the back yard since then with about 6" of water in it... the water is somewhere around 50-60 degrees.. i threw in a 3/4" nub with no leaves no roots.. it was broken and split... its now about 2-3" with leaves and roots....

What is the tank temp? some of htose plants (as they are bog plants) do not like warmer waters. Also what do you consider adequate lighting?

oops, sorry read too fast. if you wont go plastic then what about silk?
i wont do plastic cos they look crap but silk is a different ball game and many can look real. there is also silk plants you get for reptiles that hang from a single sucker on the tank side. they are great for covering equipment. exo-terra jungle plants they are called.

I got some Crypt Wendtii (Or whatever they are), and occasionally some leaves will melt. I just cut them off, the rest grows fine. Its probably the water chemistry, maybe my water is too hard, or something else. All my other plants grow fine. If I were you, I'd just get some easy plants that grow like weeds. You said Anacharis melted, thats one plants that grows like weeds. So I dont know whats going on. What kinda water you got? PH,GH, etc

what do you mean by melt? is it when a plant wilts and dies?

I agree what is this melting you mean of. Does it die or turn brown, wilts. Plants don't just melt unless their maybe touching the glass which then they will just usually turn a black or brown and that leaf will die, the whole plant will not melt. I think you have me and cichlid2006 lost, with the whole plants are melting.

it is 78 degree F. and im not sure what the wattage is but it lights up the whole tank pretty bright.... 48" light

the bottom of the stem turns brown and it breaks off of the main plant
