I keep my new apartment at 75-80 degrees so it gets dry sometimes. I slathered on some lotion yesterday because my hands were getting dry. (This was the first time I've put on lotion in a year or so.) A few hours later I decided to mess around with the tank. After I was done, there was layer floating on top of the water. Thought a minute then realized it was the damn lotion.

Any idea on how to get rid of this?
 
Time for a water change!!!

My general rule is to wash my hands before going into my tank. Deodorant and perfume/cologne can also mess with your water parameters.
 
I tried the paper towel, it didn't take much of it off. I washed my hands, but had to go almost elbow deep yesterday. Is the wc still recommended? I've got temp up to fight ich and I don't want it to go too low...

I'd do a WC. Just make sure the temp stays the same..or higher. I use a meat thermometer...the kind you poke in the meat. It was here so I strarting using it. Move the handle a little and it moves. Check your tank temp with ANY thermometer, then adjust the spigot. It will match.:)

but try using a net with paper towel in it, i no it sounds stupid but the lotion is pretty dense and there is probably lanolin in it, which is thick as anything and used so it puts a protective moisturising layer on ur hands, so effectivly thats what its done to ur water.

and for future reference, i dont ruin my tank my tank and im a girl...but then again i dont waer lotion, im naturally soft :grinno:
