Wow.. Im 18, and i listen to what the wise people of this forum have to say. I have rushed into things that people have told me not to before, and they always end up being bad, with one fish or both being badly hurt or dead.
I tried to mix a juvenile Jag and a juvenile oscar before, but needless to say the oscar went back the next day dead.
How many bala's do you have? they get really big, especialy in a school. I have heard of some bala's getting up to 2 feet being well fed/taken care of.. Saw one at my LFS that was 1 foot, 2 inches i was going to buy, but the next day i went in it was gone.. (BTW, Bala's arent real sharks, theyre minnows, but they come from asia, maybe buy some asian looking plants/deco?)
And all cichlids can get territorial, especially oscars. If you have two, youll need a big tank at least. when they get big something is bound to happen.
If i were you though, i'd rather give up one of the oscars now, when it is still young and in good health, than to give it up when its grown and in bad health (From potentially being beaten up by the other)... Take the safe road out man, dont let a fish get hurt/killed because of a stubborn attitude.
After all, keeping fish is about the fish, not your selffish needs. Its mainly about making the fish feel comfortable, safe, healthy, not making them scared, hurt, and dead, which is eventually how it will end up..
Trust me, listen to what these guys are saying, they arent here just to upset teenagers..

So, i'd have to assume that if the person knows their stuff. They have worked at a grocery store before or something, and just happens to know about the animals.
