mercury spill.

well, i was useing my useless ten gallon to store extra nets, and such. well, one thermometer Cracked. I take the tank and hose it down. I half filled it with water from the convict tank, and put in a heater and filter, to see if the tank was doomed. Well, luckily i discovered a few convict breeding pits, one of them with a fresh, guarded batch of wriglers, vibrating, but not free swimming. i figured they would make good knife food, so i took the runt convict, my scapgoat, and tossed it in the ten gallon. he has been in there for about 5 hours. Are the signs of a poisoned tank quick, or does it show slowly?

It should be cool just dont plan on eating it.Does mercury even effect fish as it does mammals?

Mercury builds up over time in fish. It's a heavy metal that is poisonous. Lethargy in the stock would probably be a sign of poisoning. If a fish eats a mercury ridden fish, it will be ingesting that same poison and probably affect it.

Also, use a digital or sticker type thermometer to avoid this problem.

im not even sure if that theomometer would have murcury in it

some of them dont, hard to say really.

I would agree with del, most theomometer's today don't even have mercury in them.......look up on the website of where the theomometer was made to see if it had any in it........
