i recently found these bulbs and alot of people i know are really liking them for lizards
i have one on my mangrove monitor and so far i havent noticed a diff but with the addded benifit of uvb and uva and the heat factor it seems to be a perfect bulb
and it also has a really long life
lets here your opinions on them

I love them! I recommend them at every chance I get.

Life span for a MVB is a year, sometimes you can get a little longer out of them. When they no longer emit what it's supposed to, you can tell because the light will be extremely dim.

Any other light you have to replace every 4-6 months, and there is no indication by lighting when it's no longer emitting what's needed.

I recommend this brand: http://www.reptileuv.com/

great for growing tomatos

Hey, what type of moth is that in your avatar, about 4 times a year I get about 10 of them on my front wall by the light and they stay still for several days. Looks very much the same. Sorry to derail and I would have PMd you but thought others might wonder as well, or you can just PM me, thanks bud.

Good luck with the lights bud, I would imagine you would want to be careful with the distance and contact ability of the herp to the light.

Honestly i have no clue took the pic in florida. At my girls sisters house! Was like 3 or 4 inchs across

bump

I don't like the high wattages that most of them have.

Wondering if you hooked up a proportional thermostat , like a helix, to them to lower the output if the uvb/uva rays would diminish as well and how much

i dont think you can dim them. they are quite touchy bulbs and take a few seconds to turn on so a dimmer doesnt seem like it would be compatable

My MVB's come on right away.. if they are not turning on right away, chances are you need to get yourself a new one. In fact, I just bought one today.. $55, but well worth it.

And no, you can't dim them.

merc vapor. metal halide. sodium lights. all require a balasat to ignite the filament . They all take a few secons to a few mins to reach optimum temp for lighting. Just look at your streetlight outside your house. same type of light. ever notice it hums and glows for a min befor reaching its brightnes
