mercury vapor bulbs?? anyone use them?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is what I use and what costs about 50 usd: http://cgi.ebay.de/Hoffmeister-HCI-...darf_fische&hash=item4aac224e98#ht_1073wt_752

Then, here is the website with the special reptile mh bulbs: http://www.hoch-rep.com/products_hr/2/en/pid1,4$pid2,7773888$pid3,7773889/products.html

The first link they only sell it in Europe. Plus the glass case would still filter out UVB. Looks fine for fish but not for reptiles IMO.

The second link that bulb looks exactly like a MVB plus again only sold in Europe. Anyway I read the description and it said was that what made it better was it emitted more light and was designed for desert animals so I wouldn't use it on a mangrove monitor or my tegu. Maybe a uromastyx. It also doesn't suggest a minimum distance from the animal which scares me a bit since it claims to emit more uvb than a "standard MVB bulb".

Obviously you have had good luck with the bulb so I am not going to comment negativity about it but I will say it doesn't sounds like a revolutionary replacement for MVB's to me.

Too much UVA/UVB can also be a bad thing. Yikes!
