Mermaid documentary, real or fake?

Surprised so many fish keepers buy into this. Its as if there is a little too much daydreaming going on while they are watching their fish.
maybe some fish keepers really "love" their fish, maybe so much they fantasise about their fish O_0

Do you think I could keep one for life in a 240 ??

With adequate filtration and flow, maybe. Possibly a male would be a better option for you, as I hear they don't get as large and aren't quite as 'voluptuous'. Its possible that it could work, but I think you might need a little more footprint when its grown. A 300 wide should be perfect!

Rob i think you forgot to mention that most mermen/mermaids are sex crazed, and you should always keep an eye out when you are cleaning the tank, and a nice Heavy lid should be on the tank at all times

This IS true. One must be VERY careful when cleaning the tank, mers have a very high reproductive drive and can become frustrated easily. When this happens, they will attack anything that comes in the tank, though not, erm, aggressively. They also have a very bad habit of stealing magnetic cleaners so you have to go in and get it.

Be aware of their occasional false spawns that are triggered by frustration, akin to a coral bloom in a SW tank. These often call for an immediate and large water change, failure to do so could result in a filter crash.

Thanks for the tips Rob. I think I might get a pair and breed them. Then I can put my own name on the mermaid strain much like certain people have with their umbee spawns.... I think I could pull it off in a 4x4x12 without a divider for life.

I wonder what the bioload will be like?? Also, do I post threads about them in the ''characins and other monster fish'' forum ??

Sounds like a wiener. That big of a tank should make them very happy!

Other Monsters is probably ideal. Either that or NA natives, depends on where yours was collected from.

Bioload shouldn't be too bad, they have a very efficient, long gut. They're omnivores, but they tend to favor plants. If you give them a healthy diet, they won't produce as much poo.
