Merodontotus Tigrinus Catfish and tigrinus shovelnose whats the difference?

anybody know the value between the two? I seen some many prices variance please help.

I see some for 200++ but then i see the smae one for $40ish?? I'm so confuse and don't want to get ripe off.

secondly "merodontus tigrinus" is the scientific name, "tigrinus shovelnose" is a common name, most people just say "tig" or "tigrinus", both refer to the same thing. if you see them for $40 this is probably not a tigrinus, but another similar catfish such as TIGER (not TIGRINUS) shovelnose, or TSN. Tigrinus catfish cost around $130+++ for juveniles and $400+++ for adults. TSN cost around $5-$50++

somebody I know is selling a tigrinus shovelnose catfish for $60 not sure if its tigrinus or tiger ? btw I apologize for wrong posting .

Look at blacksharks avatar picture beside his username.That fish is a tigrinus or tig as they are also known as.Now does the one you are contemplating look like that one?..Good deal if it does.

For $60, it's most likely a tiger shovelnose (TSN).

There are several Tiger shovelnose (TSN) species...Fasciatum, tigrinis, corruscans, magadaleniatum, etc...this may be where you're confused as they are all 'TSN's.

Fasciatum being common being the common TSN which you can find for as little $15, corruscans in the 3 digits.

Tigrinus is a whole different species, has striking pattern and doesnt get anywhere as large as TSN...Very sought after in the hobby.
