Metal Rods and Rust in Plastic Plants

i put some plants in my tank from hobby lobby the other day and now i see the little metal rods that hod the base together are rusting will this hurt my water quality or fish.

ok wrong forum thread it will prob get moved but any one know if it will hurt.

You could replace the regular steel rods with stainless ones. Hobby stores should have them. But test these too because there are different grades of stainless and some will rust a bit. Lower grades will have more iron and may rust ( a cheap way to test is to use a magnet. If it sticks a bit it may rust).
