Hey guys,

Just got my 135G tank onto my metal stand (6').

There's a gap along the entire length! The tank is only supported on it's sides! ... ummmm? lol I have the biggest blank stare right now.

The gap is about 0.3cm at it's thickest. But like I said, the tank isn't touching the stand at all lengthwise!

help???

Is the tank filled? Did you check the stand for being flat and level before you placed the tank on it?

tank is empty. Somebody told me a little of this gap is OK, but it's like the entire length.

I guess I'll move the tank and check the stand. but it's a new stand?

You mean like that? If so then yea, my 55 gallon has been setup like that for a year now. If your worried, it as easy as going to lowes or homedepot and buying plywood.

Like Pharaoh said,I would check to see if the stand is true,& also check to see if the floor is true.

The floor isn't level, that's why I got a metal stand ( I actually bought it new today).

The tank resting on the stand is now level because I propped up the legs to make it level.

I bought the tank used... is the tank warped??

Should it be straight across, is this normal?

checked the stand, it's bent in the middle.

Failures all around... I'm so pissed right now. I accomplished nothing today!!!

argghhh

Why would big al's scarborough ever sell me a bent metal stand?

gaps between steel stands and the tank in the middle are normal.

every steel stand I have ever had has the same, including both my 150 and 65 right now.

its normal.

your fine.

if you go and look at Big Al's tanks that are set up at the stores with water, you will see the same.

someone explained to me that steel is very seldom exactly straight and that is why.

your tank will be fine. its well supported at the ends and that is all that is required on modern glass tanks.

no reason to panic. its totally fine and totally normal.

trust me. I have been using the same steel stands for 20 years.

your not the only one who has become alarmed:

from the thread:

Whoa!!! Don't scrap it just yet!

This is pretty normal. My 75gal and 50gal on metal stands do the same thing. You can slip a credit card easily through the gap along the front. They have been this way for years. I have asked the same question at many LFS and all say the same thing, this is normal.

so relax, level the legs and enjoy your tank :)

But for the tank to only supported on it's ends? I mean only at it's ends? I might as well keep it on my unlevel wooden cabinet?? =S

So many people have told me that the tank should be supported along it's length.

All these different opinions are getting very tiresome for me to adhere to :grinno:
