Metronidazole dosing

what do you feed? I feed shrimp often and the feces is clear/whitish often.


without knowing what the parasite is there is no sense in medicating.


Metro is very safe, should you find that you need it, 1/4 tsp per 20 gallons, daily for 7 days with 50% daily water changes before medicating.
 
Problem with Metronidazole is that it can be hard on the kidneys. You would see a cumulative effect on the kidney damage. It wouldnt be on the first dose, but eventually you can see renal failure from using Metronidazole. Very safe for a single dosage to "clear out" the intestinal track, but prolonged exposure or repeated doses could prove fatal. Also, it does not dissolve into water as well as I would like. So mixing it into food would be ideal.
 
I feed mostly market shrimp. Once in a while they get salmon and beefheart (with garlic and spinach). They nibble on massivore, but never take the whole thing.

I guess I'll just stop worrying about this. I was just concerned about the clear-ish feces.

I asked because I found many links to metro citing the damage caused to the liver ( in humans) but all the kidney problems seem to be secondary ( your first link) or anecdotal (your second link), however , your point is that metro has potential damaging side effects and should be used correctly and not be used too much, and I agree
