MFK cracks me up!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm content with my 125g now but the 55g I don't know what I'm going to do. Had tropical tetras frogs red tail shark and stuff but they all died off for the most part. I'm thinking of some South Americans and central. Black convicts and something else.

Over the years my tanks have gone something like;
Early 1997; 10g
Few months later; 10g + 30g
1998; 75g + 30g
2000; 150g + 30g
2002; 40g (moved out of home and went flatting)
2004; 40g + 55g
2006; 80g + 40g
2008; 80g + 40g +160g +30g
2009; 210g + 80g + 40g +160g +30g(bought my first house with big garage/fish room)
2010; 370g + 210g + 80g +40g
2012; 110g (sold house in city and moved back to our home town)
2013; 110g + 500g (set up "dream tank" in new house)
Now; 500g (emptied 110g into 500g)

As you can see it is a growing addiction, fish and tanks come and go as your situation changes, but there is always an ever-increasing trend towards bigger/more! I look at my 2000L tank and it doesn't seem big enough, I like the amount of space my ~18" aro has, and I'd like him to have similar freedom of movement when he is 30"....

I still have the original 10g in the garage, and an empty 40g too. I don't think I'll ever set up the 10g again, it is a fairly ugly home made tank I was given and it is about 1/16th the volume of my current sump, but I still can't part with it!

Get what you can afford and what your life styles can support. I see a lot of guys jump in buying the biggest tank then burn themselves out really fast. Bigger is not always better. Appreciate what you have and you will enjoy the hobby more. It's all about staying in the hobby for the long haul and keeping your tanks running with good maintaince schedule.

1999
3g plastic critter tank. A few months later I got a 29g tank from Petco for angels
2001-2004
46g bow front, 29g, 18g
2005-2006
No tanks :-(
2007
I bought my first big tank and happen to be a 125g like OP. I spent well over 1k with the filtration. A few months later I discovered MFK and that's when I found local support from members sharing the same interests. I became friends with some really cool people on here.
2008
125g + 75g + 60g
2009
My bichirs needed more room to turn so decided to pick up a brand new 150g while keeping 125g + 75g + 20g.
2010
I got help from a friend building a stand for another 150g. Sold the 125g and got another 150g while still keeping 150g + 75g + 20g
2011
Fish hobby is taking too much time out of my schedule and lost some really nice bass. Sold 150g, 75g, 20g
2012
150g + 40g
2013
Got a 265g for free while keeping 150g + 40g + 40g. The main difference is I am stocking my tanks with less fish than when I first discovered MFK.

In time. Before you know it, you will have a tank bigger than you ever thought you would. I remember when my 55 gallon was massive to me.

This. lol.

When I got back into the hobby back in 2009ish I had a 29 gallon salt tank and a 55 gallon fresh tank. I thought that I was king blank on the block. I now have a 510, 365, 150 and numerous smaller tanks. I can't wait to get into my new house so that I can actually get them up and running! LOL
